GERD Surgery
In severe cases of GERD, surgery is an option for some people.
The standard surgical treatment for GERD is called fundoplication. This surgery attempts to restore the Lower Esophageal Sphincter (LES) by wrapping the upper part of the stomach around the espophagus and stitching it together, thereby reinforcing the closing function of the LES. Whenever the stomach contracts, it also closes off the
esophagus instead of squeezing stomach acids into it, thereby preventing the reflux.
Because of the side effects of surgery and drugs, when possible it is recommended to treat acid reflux with a natural product such as Acidgone® and through diet and lifestyle changes.
